Can you trust crypto influencers?
Start with how they get paid.
'We're catching this move tonight', 'the group just doubled again'. The easiest way to judge a creator is to ask: does their income come from the market, or from you?
How do crypto influencers make money?
| Source | How it works | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Exchange referral fees | Followers sign up with their link and a share of trading fees goes to them | The more you trade, the more they earn |
| Paid groups and memberships | Monthly fees | Paid whether you win or lose |
| Paid promotions | Projects pay them to promote or 'call' a token | You may be buying while the project sells |
| Profit share | A cut of copiers' profits | Some take a cut of wins, not losses |
| Private platforms | Moving followers to an 'exchange' or app they control | A scam; deposits don't come back |
To be clear: this site also earns a commission through its referral code, as every footer says. The difference is that we don't pick coins, send signals or run groups, and you don't need to trade more for us to help you.
Are live trading streams real?
What looks like a live account is almost impossible to verify from outside: it could be demo trading, a small side account, or one long and one short account with only the winner shown.
- No full history: stream or post when winning, go quiet and delete when losing.
- Income from your fees: many streamers earn referral fees, so frequent trading by viewers is steady income for them.
- Regulators notice: authorities in several countries, including China's internet regulator, have shut down accounts that used profit screenshots to lure people into trading.
Are paid crypto signal groups worth it?
Groups sell market views, entry and exit levels and 'insider info'. Two problems: everyone acts on the same levels at once, and whether the call is right or wrong, you carry the result.
Leave immediately if you see any of these
- guaranteed returns or 'can't lose';
- requests to send money to the admin's or an 'assistant's' personal account;
- pressure to install an unknown trading app or open an unfamiliar link;
- claims of 'insider channels', 'institutional info' or 'listing slots';
- an 'unlock fee' or 'deposit' before you can withdraw.
OKX staff won't DM you into a group or ask you to pay a personal account. Check any link, agent or 'official group' in the OKX app under Official Verification.
Can PnL screenshots be faked?
| Method | How | How to tell |
|---|---|---|
| Editing | Change the numbers in the image | Screenshots only, never a full live walkthrough |
| Demo passed as live | Demo trading looks almost identical | Look for demo labels and account type |
| Hedged accounts | One long, one short; one always wins | Only one direction ever shown |
| Survivorship | Post wins, delete losses | Ask for a continuous full record |
| Tiny stake, huge leverage | $10 at 100x shows a huge % | Look at dollar amounts, not just % |
How to use influencer content sensibly
- Learn the reasoning, not the levels: why they're bullish or bearish matters more than where to click.
- Prefer full records: public, long-term, with wins and losses and admitted mistakes.
- Your order, your responsibility: set your own size and stop.
- Watch for three months before paying: most 'sure things' won't happen.

Crypto influencers
FAQ
01Can you trust crypto influencers?
Use them as one input at most. Referral fees, memberships and paid promotions pay them whether or not you profit.
02Is crypto TikTok reliable?
Personal stories can be useful, but screenshots can't be verified and tend to show only wins. Don't copy someone's size or entries.
03Are live trading streams real?
You can't verify the account or see the full record, and many streamers earn from viewers' trading fees.
04Are paid crypto signal groups worth it?
Mostly not. Guaranteed returns, private payments or unknown apps mean scam.
05What is a paid shill?
When a project pays an influencer to promote a token; followers often buy while insiders sell.
06How do I spot fake PnL screenshots?
Ask for a continuous record, check for demo labels and one-sided posting, and look at amounts, not just percentages.
